The Art of Pankaj Nigam, the images directs the eye in the ways of discovering the inner nature of outward things. In his style the images appear beyond the mere representative values of the objects. This feature imparts his works a sense of revelation of inner nature. His impressionistic style imbibes to evolve a new type of symbolism suitable to express amply his inner expression or his psychic images. Pankaj’s compositions verge on the abstraction, though not ultimately. There is never an attempt on deliberate distortion or exaggeration. It is the skill of the artist that he manages the plastic line & form and the striking colors in the harmonious effect. In this context, his works can be explained as creative and original. His paintings are the characteristics of massiveness and still-modeling bear an affinity with classical Indian sculpture. Here the motifs of flowers, i.e. lotus are symbolic and typically Indian. The naivety is another quality of his expressive art.
The themes of Pankaj’s paintings are mostly inspired by the nature and the basic cultural forms of our country.
The broad patches of pigments in varying tones build up the perspective and cast the main objects in relief. This method of handling the space, thought not new, bear signs of artist’s creative urge denoted by his bold and animated images set within the framework of realism of a novel nature. In brief, his works are a synthetic illustration of oneself.
Pankaj believes in economy of line work and relies on his intuition to give character to his objects. He spaces out his images to enhance their rational qualities. In them, the effect of light and shadow give the plastic value of sculptured figures.
Pankaj (b. 1969) is still young and many more years of his long lasting achievements are ahead to be witnessed.
